Yu-Minchotai 36-pt kana is a classical kana sub-set font* that pairs with the kanji characters of Yu-Minchotai. Its design is based on a 36-pt metal type for display produced in the Taisho period (1912–26). Yu-Minchotai 36-pt kana has strokes drawn with rich nuance, as well as uniquely styled glyph shapes. When used for titles or displays in larger sizes, these characteristics are particularly prominent. *― This font does not contain kanji (ideographic) characters.
Jiyukobo was established in 1989. It has been developing high-quality typefaces for a wide range of businesses, including SCREEN’s Hiragino Fonts; Yu-Minchotai and Yu-Gothic under Jiyukobo’s own brand, both used in macOS and Windows; as well as Dainippon Printing’s Shueitai and Toppan Printing’s Toppan Bunkyutai. Jiyukobo has worked consistently to both preserve and drive forward Japan’s typographic culture. In 2019, it became a member of the Morisawa group.
