Aki Toyoshima
After a five-year stint at a design studio in Tokyo, Toyoshima moved to New York in 2009. Her typeface designs have been used for various purposes including movie/TV titles, title pages, ads and packages.
She has received many awards and prizes, including awards at the Tokyo TDC, the N.Y. TDC, and the Founder Type Design Competition; and she is a two-time winner of the Best Work Prize of the Japan Typography Annual.
Toyoshima’s Suzumushi typeface won the Copper and Akashi Prizes as well as the Popularity Vote at the Morisawa Typeface Design Competition in 2012, and the winning design was released in 2014.
