Brian J Bonislawsky
Brian Bonislawsky is a type designer, lettering artist, illustrator, and creative director with more than 25 years of experience shaping expressive visual language for fonts, apparel, packaging, branding, and display graphics. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Brian’s work grew from a lifelong fascination with lettering, illustration, and the personality of printed words.
He is the founder of Astigmatic One Eye Typographic Institute and has built, directed, or collaborated on a wide range of type foundries and design brands, including Stiggy & Sands, Grype, Monogram Fonts Co., VersusTwin, Correspondence Ink, One Eyed Squid, and Pink Broccoli. Through these libraries, his work spans friendly scripts, retro display faces, bold slabs, monograms, experimental lettering, sign-inspired type, decorative revivals, and practical families built for everyday design use.
At Stiggy & Sands, Brian collaborates with longtime creative partner Jim Lyles to create typefaces rooted in hand lettering, classic commercial art, retro Americana, and approachable typographic craft. The foundry’s fonts are made for real-world creative work: branding, packaging, posters, signage, editorial design, book covers, social graphics, and identity systems that need charm, clarity, and character.
Across his work, Brian is drawn to type that feels made by hand but refined for modern use — fonts with warmth, utility, humor, history, and a strong sense of voice.
