Brian Willson
Brian Willson grew up in Austin, Texas, in the 1950s and ’60s. He kicked around the Austin music scene awhile before snagging a Radio/TV/Film degree from the University of Texas. In 1980, he moved to coastal Maine, where he worked as a journalist for several years before stumbling over type design more or less by accident. He released his first font, Marydale, in 1993. Since then, Willson has come to specialize in accurate simulations of historical penmanship, old cartographic lettering, and vintage text type. In his free time, he enjoys birding, hiking, cycling, and nature photography.
