Onur Yazıcıgil
Onur Yazıcıgil is an Istanbul-based typographer and design educator. Upon receiving his BFA in Graphic Design, he was awarded a full scholarship to Purdue University, where he pursued an MFA in Visual Communication Design. During his graduate studies, he won the 1st prize in typography from the Society of Typographic Arts in Chicago (2007). After the completion of his MFA, he was recruited to teach at Sabancı University, where he designed his first text face, Duru Sans, which was acquired by Google Fonts. He completed his PhD in the history of Ottoman Arabic metal typefaces from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2020. He is the co-founder of ISType (Istanbul Typography Conference) where he has been directing its international conferences since 2011.
