Description

Aaber (from Aaber Sabeel, Arabic for “Wayfarer”) is an Arabic display font inspired by ancient engravings left by an unknown wayfarer on the ruins of Khalid al‑Qasri’s palace near Baghdad. The Aaber typeface consists of two weights; Regular and Bold. Its distinctive structure makes it suitable for modern design applications across web, print, and mobile interfaces.

Mostafa El Abasiry

Mostafa El Abasiry is an independent Arabic type designer whose work has helped define a new era of expressive Arabic typography. Since 2009, he has built a distinctive and influential catalogue of Arabic typefaces known for their bold geometry, modern aesthetics, and emotionally resonant visual character. His designs are widely recognized for merging the structural clarity of geometric construction with the creative freedom of contemporary display typography. Mostafa’s approach is rooted in a balance of mathematical precision and artistic intuition. Many of his typefaces begin as geometric studies - circles, arcs, grids, and modular systems, before evolving into expressive display families with strong visual identity. Other designs explore texture, layering, and experimental forms, expanding the expressive potential of Arabic letterforms in digital environments.

In 2017, Mostafa introduced Tajreed, the first Arabic OpenType‑SVG color font ever created. This pioneering work brought textured, multi‑layered Arabic typography into mainstream digital use and opened a new category of expressive Arabic tools for designers and everyday creators. Tajreed later grew into a broader ecosystem of textured and experimental families that influenced how Arabic typography appears in mobile apps, creative platforms, and user‑generated content.

Mostafa’s typefaces have been used by a wide range of clients, from global brands such as Apple TV+ and Turkish Airlines to millions of everyday creators. Despite this reach, his design process remains deeply personal: every typeface begins with hand‑drawn sketches, geometric construction, and a search for a unique visual voice rooted in Arab visual culture.

Today, Mostafa continues to expand his catalogue with new display families, textured experiments, and modern interpretations of Arabic typographic heritage. His work aims to give designers and creators expressive tools that did not exist before - tools that make Arabic typography feel bold, modern, and alive.
