Alasassy is an informal typeface that is designed to liven up logos, headlines, informal signs, advertising, book or report covers, or packaging. It’s narrow and looks hand-written, as though it had been drawn with a felt-tip pen that left little ink balls on the ends of letters. Alasassy includes both lowercase and uppercase letters, with alternate characters that mix high and low crossbars, giving the design versatility and a whimsical feeling. Type designer Andrea Leksen wrote out pages of Sharpie pen drawings to get the look she wanted for Alasassy. She describes it as “a great combination of an organic, hand drawn feel but still clean and crisp enough to look professional.” Alasassy Pro is offered in three weights—Regular, Bold, and Black—with italic complements for each. The Pro version contains more language support, including Cyrillic and Greek. The Caps version mixes capital and lowercase letter shapes that share the same height.
Type design enthusiast and legibility evangelist, Andrea Leksen’s passion is typography. She currently contracts as a type designer for Microsoft, consults as an Art Director managing Amazon’s fonts, and releases new fonts through her design firm, Leksen Design. Her font releases include Alasassy, Mr Gabe, Nordeco, Nordique Pro, and Bemis.
