Aptos Slab is a complement to the Aptos typeface family with stubby, slab-shaped serifs. It can be used with Aptos, Aptos Serif, and Aptos Mono to convey a wide range of typographic expression. This gives the default font Aptos a much richer and more varied voice, while keeping all the fonts in the super family compatible. In short, they look like they go together. They can be used in any sort of document.
The serifs of Aptos Slab are “Egyptian slabs,” which appear less formal than the more elegant serifs of Aptos Serif, while looking less severe than the sans-serif Aptos. The heavy serif shapes are balanced with the thick and thin stroke weights of the sans. This gives the even-toned voice of the Aptos family a bit of informal emphasis. As type designer Steve Matteson puts it, “There is no danger of mis-matching additional fonts from the menu with the default – the Aptos fonts will graphically complete each other’s thoughts.”
Aptos Slab has a total of six weights, from Light to Black, with italic complements that take the form of slanted romans (not cursive in shape). The boldest weights are particularly useful for titles, while the lighter weights work well for text. Aptos Slab supports the extended Latin character set, as well as Greek and Cyrillic.
