IvyMazarin is a 2026 revival of Astrée, Robert Girard’s distinctly French interpretation of Garamond, which was first released in 1921 and later issued by Stephenson Blake as Mazarin. Working from rare archival specimens, designer Jan Maack preserves the original’s cool crispness—especially in the italics—while refining the proportions, raising the x-height, moderating the ascenders, and setting the italics at a confident 12°. Historical details remain available as features, including a long-legged R, alternate Q, swashes, and small caps.
