Kalinga is a typeface designed for typesetting in the Odia script, which is used for the Odia language (formerly spelled Oriya) as well as Sanskrit and other regional languages of India. Kalinga has a conventional style and can be used for both body text and titles or headlines. Its characters have very little contrast between thick and think strokes; since early Odia typefaces were also low in contrast, this makes Kalinga appear both “traditional and “modern.”
Kalinga was designed by Modular Infotech as a typeface that would be clearly legible onscreen as well as in long passages of text. It has two weights, Regular and Bold, and no italic styles. It includes capitals and lowercase letters for the Latin alphabet, in a large, open, sans serif style that complements the Odia forms.
