Leelawadee is a typeface designed for typesetting the Thai language in the Thai script. It is a legible, straightforward “sans serif” design with traditional letter shapes, including closed loops (small circles at the extremes of some letters). It has low contrast between thick and thin strokes, except in the loops, which gives the impression of being a monolinear typeface (without contrast). Leelawadee is designed for legibility onscreen. It can be used for short passages of body text or for headings and subheads.
Leelawadee UI includes the characters needed for typesetting Buginese, Khmer, and Lao in addition to Thai. Both Leelawadee and Leelawadee UI include capitals and lowercase letters for the Latin alphabet, derived from the Segoe UI typeface. Leelawadee has two weights, Regular and Bold, while Leelawadee UI has three weights, Regular, Bold, and Semilight; there are no italic styles.
