Magno began its life with a mysterious metal typeface as a reference: a “Memphis” found in Brazil that was never a real Memphis. Along the way, though, this condensed family became a whole new thing, far from a revival. It ended up with 8 weights for every version (serif and sans), plus obliques, a large latin character set covering over 200 languages, and a considerable amount of OpenType Features including sets of numbers, fractions, small caps, superiors and inferiors, arrows, quite a few alternates, and even a unicase stylistic set. It’s special care for the visual mass and consistency through the wide range of weights makes it a good display option for impactful messages.
Blackletra is a digital type foundry run by Brazilian type designer Daniel Sabino, currently based in São Paulo. Established in 2012, the foundry develops custom and retail typefaces as well as lettering and logotypes. The company’s typefaces combines historical interest with calligraphic influences and sometimes unusual ideas.
