Mazúrquica is a condensed Grotesque typeface that combines some aspects of the 19th century woodtype with a subtle reverse contrast and shapes that reminds some formal aspects of the street letterings seen in Santiago and Valparaíso. Over the years Mazúrquica found its place in the visual landscape of Chile, it is one of the most popular typeface of our catalogue, widely used in many designs related with the chilean artistic and cultural activities. There is something in Mazúrquica that catches the eye and produces a sense of identity and unity.
In 2020, we introduce a new completely reviewed and updated version of the family, cut in seven weights, with a new set of interlocking capital letters, new sets of figures, alternative glyphs and other nice OpenType features. Its particular look and condensed structure makes Mazúrquica a very suitable typeface for composing strong headlines and short texts.
Based in Santiago de Chile, Quintana-Font is an independent type foundry that designs, publishes, and distributes carefully crafted typeface families that meet the diverse needs of today’s visual communication. We create new typeface families with a focus on creativity, cultural diversity, technology, and functionality. Our projects are inspired by diverse artistic and cultural expressions that provide us with conceptual, aesthetic, and social perspectives. We develop typographic and pictographic systems that can be continuously expanded. Whether it’s a long-term or short-term project, we use the latest technology to streamline type production and allow more time for reflection and experimentation.
