Microsoft Sans Serif is a highly legible typeface designed as a User Interface (UI) font. It is intended for simple textual elements on a computer screen. Although it is perfectly readable as a headline typeface or for short passages of body text, it is probably not the right choice for a business document. Better to use a different neutral-looking sans serif typeface such as Arial (which it closely resembles) or Univers.
Microsoft Sans Serif was designed to be “metrically compatible” (that is, exactly match the width of each letter and character) with the MS Sans bitmap font that was shipped in earlier versions of Microsoft Windows. It has no italic style and only the single, regular weight.
