Description

Microsoft Uighur is an Arabic typeface designed for typesetting the Uighur language. It follows the Persian style of Arabic script, which is the traditional form used for writing Uighur. The letter forms have been optimized for legibility at small sizes, which makes Microsoft Uighur a good typeface for body text. It has a subtle calligraphic quality which gives it a fresh vitality and energy.

Arabic type designer Mamoun Sakkal designed Microsoft Uighur for Microsoft in 2002 as a text typeface for the Uighur language, although it is also suitable for typesetting other languages that use the Arabic alphabet. The font includes capital and lowercase letters in the Latin alphabet, which were designed by John Hudson. Microsoft Uighur has two weights, Regular and Bold; it has no italic styles, which are not normally part of the Arabic script.
