Myanmar Text is a typeface designed for typesetting the Myanmar script, which is used for the Burmese language as well as for several other languages: Rakhine-Marma (Arakanese), Mon, Karen, Chin, Shan, Palaung, and the liturgical languages Sanskrit and Pali. Myanmar Text has clear, open forms and is suitable for use in body text in long documents.
Type designer John Hudson designed the characters of Myanmar Text, with coding for OpenType support by Andrew Glass; the bold weight was designed by Ian Patterson at Monotype. Although the typeface was originally designed with the constraints of user interfaces on computer screens in mind, it is really best in documents, where the deep stacks of diacritical marks can be displayed clearly.
Myanmar Text has two weights, Regular and Bold, with no italic styles. The font includes capitals and lowercase letters for the Latin script, based on the Segoe typeface.
