Description

Meet Neokuro VF—a super-bold Japanese typeface with an unmistakable presence!

Combining the striking power of a Black weight with softly rounded corners and subtle Mincho-inspired details, Neokuro brings a fresh personality to Japanese typography; bold yet warm and expressive yet approachable. One of Neokuro’s standout features is its ability to compress kana and Latin characters to just 50% of their original width, while keeping kanji perfectly square.
The contrast between solid, commanding kanji and dynamically adjustable kana creates bold, rhythmic typography full of movement and energy. As a variable font, Neokuro opens up exciting possibilities for creative expression.
From title logos and posters to lyric videos and video thumbnails, Neokuro is made for moments when your typography needs to make an instant impact!

Descriptions of the axes
Width Latin/Kana (wdth): Compresses the character width. The width is measured along the direction in which the characters are arranged.
Compression Mode (CORI): Switches the compression direction. The value can be set to 0 or 1, with values from 0 to 0.5 treated as 0.
Up/Down Offset (EPOS): Adjusts the vertical position of characters when they are horizontally compressed (wider than they are tall). For example, in horizontal text with “Width Latin/Kana” set to 70 and “Compression Mode” set to 1, this axis allows you to adjust the vertical position of non-kanji glyphs.
Left/Right Offset (CPOS): Adjusts the horizontal position of characters when they are vertically compressed (taller than they are wide). For example, in vertical text with “Width Latin/Kana” set to 65 and “Compression Mode” set to 1, this axis allows you to adjust the horizontal position of non-kanji glyphs.
Note: When using the variable font features, only non-kanji glyphs are affected.

Known Issue
In Illustrator, when kana or Latin characters are compressed, the spacing between punctuation marks and the following characters may become excessively wide. Enabling Proportional Metrics can help improve this issue.
