Nexus: a family of ‘connected’ typefaces
Nexus® is an extensive family of three ‘connected’ typefaces, partly based on Majoor’s Seria, but conceived much more as a workhorse typeface. The starting point was Nexus Serif. From this, a sans serif version was derived: Nexus Sans. A third member then followed, a slab-serif-like design called Nexus Mix, in turn derived from the sans.
Nexus Typewriter is a useful corporate monospaced font, including old style figures, a true italic, and a bold italic.
Nexus Serif Italic comes with two series of elegant swash capitals, with lowercase swashes available in both long and short end-swash versions. It also includes a range of special characters, such as squares, circles, stars, and arrows, in both solid and outline versions.
In 2006, the Nexus family was awarded first prize at the Creative Review Type Design Awards in London, in the Text Families category.
In 2021 Martin Majoor launched an independent type foundry under his own name. Majoor is known for his award-winning typefaces (Scala, Seria, Nexus) that were originally published by Fontshop. His Scala and Scala Sans are considered ‘classics’ and are among the first digital typefaces. In collaboration with Jos Buivenga he designed the large and successful Questa family. In his latest typeface ‘Comma Base’, he explores the basic shapes of a typeface, with both typical sans features and at the same time serif elements. It can be seen as a typeface featuring the best of both worlds. Comma Base is the first typeface to be released by his own foundry.
