Pim (Analogue Pixels) has travelled far. Now a fully digital typeface with all expected features, it began as a letterpress design. Pieter van Rosmalen first made the fonts in polymer and wood, each monospaced letter a square block. The concept is based on Amsterdam’s mid-20th-century ‘Pootjesglas’ shop-window lettering by Johannes Willem ‘Pim’ Pootjes, loved for its wide, round shapes, ball terminals and bold punctuation. The digital Pim expands the original capitals with lowercase, alternates, pictograms, ornaments, borders, patterns and display numerals. It supports extended Latin and Cyrillic (with Bulgarian and Serbian forms) in three weights plus an inline style. All glyphs fit a square and share a high x-height with no descenders, enabling very tight setting. Three clip-on swash sets attach to capitals via bracket keys, while Art Deco initials, manicules, emoji, arrows, symbols and googly-eye umlauts round out the playful set.
