Segoe Marker is an informal, condensed typeface that looks as though it was written with a felt-tip marker. It has traditional letter shapes but with rough, irregular edges. It can be used to give a friendly, engaging look to short texts or headlines, and it is particularly appropriate for anything that looks like a comment on a sticky note.
Type designer Tom Rickner based the shapes of the letters and their proportions on the condensed width of Segoe, so that Segoe Marker would fit comfortably with the rest of the Segoe family. Under a very tight deadline, he tried out different markers and different kinds of paper before drawing the letters with a Sharpie marker on “some nice absorbent stock from an old stash from my RIT School of Printing days.” He then autotraced the outlines, giving them the “bleed” edges that would preserve their handwritten appearance.
Segoe Marker has only one weight, with no italic companion. It supports only the Latin alphabet.
