Symbol is, as its name suggests, a symbol font. Unlike more modern fonts like Segoe UI Symbol the symbols in this font are mapped to alphabetic characters. Symbol includes both capital and lowercase letters of the Greek alphabet (without accents) in the Times New Roman typeface, along with numerals and punctuation, as well as a selection of mathematical symbols and other useful symbols such as playing-card suits and arrows. It is primarily used for typesetting mathematical expressions, and to supplement and extend the symbols that are included in other typefaces.
Symbol was created by the Monotype Design Studio and became popular in early versions of the Windows operating system. It has only one weight, and no italic style.
