Tunga is a typeface designed for typesetting the Kannada language using the Kannada script. Its letter shapes have very little contrast between thick and thin strokes, and they are in a somewhat geometric-looking “modern” style that works well onscreen. Tunga was designed for user interfaces, and it is suitable for presentations and other situations that call for short text and small headlines.
Tunga was designed for Microsoft by type director Raghunath Joshi and Vinay Saynekar. It has two weights, Regular and Bold, with not italic styles. The distinct difference of weight between the Regular and Bold make it useful in situations for typesetting complex text where you can use the two weights to make the hierarchy clear.
Tunga includes capitals and lowercase letters for the Latin script, derived from the Microsoft Sans Serif typeface.
