Vani is a typeface designed for typesetting the Telugu language in the Telugu script. Vani features the traditional heavy bottom contrast found in Telugu letters, and generally high contrast between thick and thin strokes. This makes it more similar to traditional book typefaces than the low-contrast Telugu typeface Gautami, which makes it more appropriate for body text. Vani works well for headlines and short paragraphs of text at larger sizes; the spacing between characters is rather tight, which would make it less easy to read at small sizes.
Vani has two weights, Regular and Bold, with no italic styles. There is a clear difference between the two weights, which is not always easy to achieve in a typeface for the screen; this is useful for making distinctions of hierarchy within texts. Vani was designed by Muthu Neduraman.
