Ek Type
Ek Type is a collaborative type design studio based in Mumbai, that specialises in developing Unicode-compliant, multi-script fonts across all Indian languages and Latin.
Our clients include Google, Apple, Godrej, Coca-Cola (South Asia), Facebook, Samsung, Tata Sky, Lodha, Star TV, Future Group, Pidilite Industries, Reliance, Star Health, Axis Bank, Sun Pharma, Morisawa (Japan) among others.
Our open-source fonts are used by the PMO Office (Government of India), Finance Ministry, Indian Railways, Metros, Dainik Jagran, Star Bharat, Godrej, Domestic Airports, Museums, ABP News, Odia Stadiums, Lokmat, Jio IPL, TV9 Kannada, Amul, Britania, and thousands of other apps, news papers and brands across the globe.
At Ek Type our team comprises experienced type designers, researchers and academicians spanning a wide age group whose varied skill sets complement each other. It includes 14 in-house designers, 4 consulting designers, a type engineer and language experts. Our typefaces give adequate importance to script grammar and script tradition and ensure a fine balance of aesthetics and functionality. They support multiple weights, software platforms and a wide range of applications. Our fonts include the Mukta, Anek (variable), Baloo2 (variable) Multi- script Family, Handpainted Type, Modak, Sama, Gotu, Honk, Nithya Ranjana and Jaini.
Our work has been featured in London Design Festival 2017, 365 Typo, Design.Google, Typographica’s favourite typefaces of 2015 and 2016, The Hindu, The Economic Times, Quartz, ELLE. We have won several Indian and International awards including the D&AD Yellow, Graphite and Wooden pencil, Black and Blue elephant at Kyoorius Design Awards, Communication Art award, Tokyo TDC, TDC award and One Show Asia.
Apart from developing and selling fonts, we conduct workshops, create documentations and awareness about Indian typography and mentor upcoming type designers by engaging them in the process of font development and subsequently provide them with a platform to showcase their work.
