VDL-LogoJrBlack is based on the basic letter forms of VDL-LogoJr, but with a maximized stroke weight. It is a ultra-heavy gothic (sans-serif) typeface. In particular, its kana syllabic characters have a very dynamic and freewheeling style to attract the viewer’s attention, while still retaining a good level of legibility from the aesthetically well-balanced formation of character shapes. VDL-LogoJrBlack was one of the prize-winning designs at the ATypI Letter.2 Competition in 2011 and at the New York TDC2 Competition in 2008.
The ethos of Visual Design Laboratory (VDL) is to balance the natural beauty of letterforms with rigorous standards for readability and legibility. VDL offers a comprehensive collection known as “VDL Designers Fonts” (VDLデザイナーズフォント), which is sure to resonate with designers seeking a typeface that’s highly individual while maintaining a broad appeal.
