Hakushu Nakamoto 中本 白洲

Hakusyu Nakamoto was born in Hatari, Matuyama, Ehime Prefecture on August 6th, 1948.
He studied calligraphy under Saisui Ishibashi, and works as a professional calligrapher. His works have been introduced not only in Japan but also world-wide, spreading the knowledge and skill of brush script calligraphy to many people across the world. In addition to calligraphy, he has developed many digital fonts of brush script typefaces.
As one of the pioneers in calligraphic education, he has appeared on TV (for ex., four times in the NHK TV program “One Hundred Minutes about Masterpieces”) and his works have been featured in magazine articles and used for TV titles.
In addition, he designs calligraphic labels for Japanese sake, and developed a software tool for busy people to learn how to write beautifully with a pen. Recently, he has been producing free educational video clips about calligraphy distributed through SNS channels, working to disseminate the culture of Japanese hand writing and calligraphy.
Through his educational videos and collaboration with university professors in other disciplines, he is always striving to expose a wider range of people to the art of calligraphy, particularly young students who will carry the knowledge forward.
